What is a Province Chapter

What is a Province Chapter?

Chapter is a gathering of a religious community to set direction and elect leaders. Chapter, when in session, is the highest decision making body. Delegates are chosen among the vowed members to represent the whole Province.

Within the United States Province of Saint Clare, a Provincial Chapter is held every 4 years. The Chapter consists of two parts—the Chapter of Affairs and the Chapter of Elections.

On July 9, 2015, Sr. Diane Przyborowski, our Provincial Directress, convoked the Provincial Chapter of 2016 saying,

With holy curiosity and deep faith, may we ponder in our hearts what our call as Community is at this time in the history of our Province, the Congregation, the Church, and the world. May our hearts expand and open to hear with freshness this call to come together in the sacred time of our Provincial Chapter.

The Wheaton Franciscan Community, vowed members and covenant companions, is currently preparing Chapter. It is a special time of reflection and sharing in circle, a way we gather together as community.  To read more about The Circle Way, click here.

Our intention for Chapter 2016 is:

  • To be open to the Spirit with us,
  • To come willing to listen and share deeply and authentically together,
  • To live in Franciscan simplicity,
  • To break open a fresh understanding of ourselves and how we are called to serve
